While we all have seen the George Floyd video, it occurred to me that I didn’t really know what he was being arrested for. He was arrested because a shopkeeper called the police on suspicion of Floyd using a counterfeit $20 bill. So, he wasn’t robbing a store at gunpoint. Why would you even handcuff him if he is not resisting arrest? Sad day for all of us.

The police walk a line – we fear them and we rely on them to help us. But, the line should not be crossed.

So, what is the plan? There should be a NATIONAL plan…that is what Trump should be doing….

  1. No knee on necks
  2. No choke holds
  3. Annual reviews of police officers in the field regarding aggressive behavior
  4. Better screening of potential officers and after first three years in field
  5. How to de-escalate a situation…on both sides.
  6. Crack down on agitators- that appear all over the country on various issues
  7. Anonymous reporting of inappropriate police behavior (can be from community or inside police force) and summaries of those reports to police commissioner, selected community leaders with monthly community – police discussions. Quarterly reports (for all cities)to mayor and governor.
  8. Punishment for aggressive behavior- national standards. From reprimand to dismissal.
