Israel and Hamas Back Fighting Today– October 19, 2025- So Much for Peace Plan. But, at least each side received their hostages back so some families can get some peace. So what has the US learned?
That negotiating peace as a third party only works if the two fighting parties want peace. And, while the US current administration does not want to feed children and the poor and provide health care, we are spending $18 Billion on the Israeli-Hamas war and between $115 and $187 billion for the Ukraine war. Does Trump really think Putin is going to stop bombing Ukraine because he said so?
And, then most recently $20 billion plus $20 billion in private funding to Argentina. Meanwhile, while the US is giving Argentina money, China is now buying soybeans from Argentina while US soybean growers are going to lose $3.4 billion in soybean sales as China is not buying. Plus, even if we give some soybean farmers support, what are they going to grow next year? Bankrupties coming from some of Trump’s strongest supporters.
So, what have we learned- peace is fragile and international trade relations is not like a traditional business deal. We have now alienated Japan, Canada, Mexico, India and others. And, we have yet to see the huge impact of this miscalculation. To date $215 billion has been collected tariff revenue, with 50% to 60% which will be paid by US consumers and the other portion absorbed by corporations with reduced profits which can lead to layoffs. Any tax reduction will be negated.
