Oscar Tropies are made at the Polich Tallix Foundry in Rock Tavern, New York. While the article said upstate New  York, Rock Tavern is really  an hour and a half north of NYC up the Palisades parkway. But, still interesting that they are made in a small town in a rural area.

When the statuettes were first introduced in 1929, they were cast in solid bronze and plated in 24-karat gold. But throughout the show’s history, the Academy has had to opt for lesser metals due to availability. From 1987 to 2015, Chicago-based R.S. Owens manufactured the prestigious awards using a gold-plated tin alloy.

But when the Academy decided to return to bronze for the 2016 awards, it had to scout out a new manufacturer. Fortunately, the Polich Tallix Foundry checked all the boxes. The Academy’s return to bronze and the high quality of the Polich Tallix Foundry’s Oscar statuettes have proven superior to those from past manufacturers.
