Niagara Frontier Botanical Society Field Trips for 2018.
Sunday, June 3, 2018: Sonyea State Forest, south of Mount Morris in Livingston County. This is a joint trip with the Rochester Mycological Assn & NYFA. Saturday, June 9, 2018, 9:00 a.m.: Highland Park in Rochester. A second visit to this stunning park which is really an arboretum with hundreds of gorgeous trees. Those who visited last year vowed to return. Meet at the Flying J at Darien Lake exit (Rte. 77) of I-90. Bring lunch. Leader: Michael Siuta, 822-2544.
Saturday, June 30, 2018, 8:30 a.m.: Furman Fen & Houghton Bog. Joint field trip with Nature Sanctuary Society. Meet in the main parking lot at Sprague Brook Park. Bring water boots and drinking water, also lunch for a picnic at Sprague Brook in between visits to the two field trip sites. Saturday-Sunday, July 7-8, 2018. Overnight trip to Erie National Wildlife Refuge & Headland Dunes Nature Preserve. Erie NWF is located 35 miles south of Erie PA, is huge at 8800 acres, and includes trails, boardwalks, grasslands, marshes, and more. Headland Dunes is on Lake Erie just east of Cleveland and is considered the best remaining intact beach headlands community. If time allows, we could also visit Lake Pleasant Conservation Area near Erie PA. Leader: Joanne Schlegel, 835-6042. Deadline to participate: June 15.
Saturday, July 21, 2018, 9:30 a.m: Garden Day. We will visit the magnificent gardens of two of our members, Hermann Emmert & Judy Hoffman, and then go out for lunch. Meet at Hermann’s house in Cheektowaga, 182 Fairvale Drive, just off Union Rd. north of Rte. 33.
No field trips scheduled for August.
