Places to Go Birding in Buffalo NY. It is in the migratory pathway to Canada so during spring and fall you have the opportunity to see unusual birds. There is lots of water –Lake Erie, Niagara River, Iroquois and other locations.

1. Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge offers many lakes and ponds where ducks and other birds like to gather. Plus, warblers in the spring. It is located about 45 minutes outside of Buffalo… just north of Darien Lake. They have a visitor center and have maps. Kayuga Trail and the Overlook.
2. Buffalo Orinthological Society– They have meetings, hikes and events.

4. Reinstein Woods at 93 Honorine Drive, Depew (off Como Park Rd.)- Features wild turkeys, green and blue herons, Eastern Kingbird, Scarlet Tanagers, Baltimore Orioles and in late March- April, there are migrating loons, hooded mergansers, etc. Lots of ponds so lots of wildlife. Calendar
5. Forest Lawn Cemetery-1411 Delaware Ave.,Buffalo- great in spring for migration birds – Bufflehead, Hooded Merganser, Horned Grebe and Loons – Mid-April. In May-June, the cemetery offers guided birding tours for $10.
6. Times Beach (around 225 Fuhrmann) and Tifft Nature Preserve (1200 Fuhrmann Blvd.) and Outer Harbor- along Fuhrmann Blvd. Tiff is great during migration periods- loons, ducks, etc. and in winter Snowy White Owls are sometimes along the Outer Harbor.
7. Hoyt Lake in Delaware Park, 199 Lincoln Parkway. Herons, variety of small birds.
Two Events You Won’t Want to Miss
1. Festival of Birds at Presque Isle (Mid-May) . Three day event. You can come one day or for the weekend. They have field trips, speakers, and workshops.
2. Allegany Nature Pilgrimage – always first weekend in June. In 2019, it is May 31 to June 2, 2019. It is $25 for the weekend if you are a Audubon member, $45 for adults after April 23 ($35 before then). They have bird banding, beginning birding, advanced birding hikes. Register
