Selling Fees on Ebay- How Much Will You Really Make? Recently, I listed 10 fossils on Ebay and the customer paid $59.09 or about $5.90 each. Here is what I made on the sale.
Total Paid by Customer: $59.09
Minus
$6 Listing Fee to Ebay -what they don’t say on their fee schedule (took me 30 minutes of surfing the web to find it) is that if you list an item for 1-3 days you have to pay $1 per listing. If you list it for 5 or more days, it is free.
Ebay – 10% selling fee which you have to pay on the item amount plus shipping (not tax) so on $55.22 x 10%=$5.52
Then there is the paypal fee which is 2.9% plus .30c, so that was another $2.01
Then, there is NY State Tax so that was another $3.87
The shipping and handling was $7.95
So, $6 plus $5.52 plus $2.01 plus $3.87 plus $7.95=$25.35
Total Paid by Customer – $59.09 minus $25.35 =$33.74 so you will pay 43% in charges or assume you will make 57% of the total asking price. And, yes, don’t list for 1-3 days or you incur another $1 per listing.
