The Senate Should NOT confirm Dr. Mehmet Oz as Head of Medicare and Medicaid Services as he will support privatizing it.

  1. Like Kennedy who got kickbacks from legal firms in the millions, Dr. Oz while medically trained has focused his career on MONEY dispensing dubious medical claims on TV making millions. Historically, this position was held by those with experience in health insurance and policy. In a BMJ study from 2014, for instance, researchers evaluated health claims made on 40 randomly selected episodes of “The Dr. Oz Show,” a syndicated daytime TV show that ran from 2009 to 2022. They found that about half of the recommendations made on the show were unsupported by scientific evidence.
  2. As Trump wants to privatize Medicare, we can assume like everybody else, Dr. Oz will go along with it since he has stock and promoted for profit Medicare Advantage Plans with around $600,000 invested in UnitedHealth Group- a for profit Medicare Advantage Plan.
  3. Under the private Medicare plans, customers are allowed to buy over-the-counter medicines and supplements through debit or prepaid cards and Dr. Oz has made millions  from promoting and investments in iHerb and other supplement and medical companies.
  4. As for Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act, well….remember the GOP wants to find $880 billion in cuts to fund tax cuts for corporations and wealthy and have come up so far with $55 billion. Source

  6. In summary, Dr. Oz is likely to support Trump’s goal of privatizing for profit Medicare—and if you think you will pay less and receive the same or better benefits, good luck with that thought.
