Surge in Covid Cases in East Aurora– Come On – Social Distancing is Imperative. Here are the trends. Keep in mind there are 6200 people in East Aurora and 14,000 in Aurora overall. Meanwhile, I have seen neighbors have a group of 15 people and others not wearing masks while walking with friends at Knox Farm State Park. If you don’t care about yourself, care about the health care workers that may have to take care of you if you get covid not to mention the rest of us.
Of the 202 cases, according to WKBW – 99 cases were at Absolut Care-what is most disturbing is that 75% were asymptomatic and of the 68 staff members, 33 were tested and 20 were positive and one is in the ICU. So, basically half of the covid cases are coming from Absolut. But keep in mind the asymptomatic aspect of covid- we find that the most scary.

Why you should wear a mask
New Yorkers are required to wear a face mask in crowded situations.
Asymptomatic carriers- 25 to 60% of people have covid but no symptoms but they spread it to you.
Wash your hands before putting on a mask
A single cough can produce up to 3000 droplets- landing on people, clothing and surfaces and can remain in the air. It stays 3 hrs on fabric, 4 hours on copper and wood, 24 hrs on cardboard, 42 hours on metal and 72 hours on plastic.
Wear disposable plastic gloves- one opinion
Ok, we have masks on. If you go to the post office or grocery store, people have masks on but NO disposable plastic gloves. There are different viewpoints on this – ie the gloves become contaminated they can spread it to yourself or other surfaces. And, people throw them away in public places vs. garbage can.
Here is how we look at it–pumping gas, put a glove on, pump, carefully turn glove inside out and place on floor of car (passenger side or some place in the back or trunk). Grocery store or post office- wear when checking out – how many people do you think used that credit card machine? Take off the glove before you enter your car, but don’t throw on the ground at the store, again, place on floor mat inside your car and carefully dispose when you get home. We prefer powdered large size gloves- easy to get on and off. If you have a rubber allergy, take that into consideration. Be sure to turn inside out–don’t try to slip them off.
