All scheduled Erie County Department of Health Points of Distribution Clinics for this upcoming Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (January 18 to 20) have been cancelled due to lack of vaccines including Erie Community College South and Erie Community College North. Those getting the second dose are not affected by the cancellations.
Who Should Get the Vaccine- Counter Indications
75-80% of the population needs to be vaccinated before social distancing can end. The Pfizer vaccine is 52% effective after 21 days after the first dose. You need both doses to be 95% effective. And, it takes 21 days after each dose to be effective for Pfizer and 28 days for Moderna.
Mild pain, muscle aches, chills and swelling at the injection site are normal reactions to the vaccine and show that your immune system is kicking into gear. Some studies show that aspirin, acetaminophen and ibuprofen can reduce the effectiveness of the vaccine by interfering with immune response- so you might want to avoid antifever drugs around the time of vaccination (Source AARP). From what we have heard, it is the second dose that might cause some of these reactions.
