Why Nick Langworthy should vote against confirmation of Robert F. Kennedy  as Secretary of Health and Human Services as he is against vaccines and disease prevention. If confirmed, he would be responsible for the Disease Control and Prevention, Food and Drug Administration, the National Institute of Health, Medicare and Medicaid. With a $1.7 trillion budget.

We are hoping Kennedy doesnot survive the Senate Finance Committee but if he does….

  1. For decades Robert F. Kennedy has spread misinformation about childhood vaccines including polio, measles, meningitis.( We should be terrified)
  2. Scientists worry he won’t prepare the US for the risk of bird flu which has now been passed to humans. (We should be worried)
  3. Financial conflicts- he made $2 million last year from law firms for recommending candidates for anti vaccine law suits and if won, he gets 10% of the settlement. He refused to say he would not take money or influence policy that would once out of office create income for himself.
  4. He wants to shakeup scientific research- firing hundreds of federal scientists
  5. He believes the government should not be involved in abortion but the GOP wants to restrict access to abortion  (We agree with him and not the GOP)

Kennedy also inaccurately claimed that Medicaid is fully paid for by the federal government — it’s not; states and federal taxpayers fund it. He also said most Americans have purchased a Medicare Advantage plan, when only about 1 in 10 Americans have. His misstatements about the program were peppered in between suggestions that he would seek to push privatization of the programs, repeatedly saying that most Americans like private insurance and that they dislike the government run versions of the programs. (61.2 million people get Medicare and 72 million people- many children- get Medicaid)
