Write Congressman Nick Langworthy  and encourage him to Vote NO on Proposed Medicaid Cuts which will devastate nursing homes-60% rely on Medicaid and NO on the TAX  Bill. Here is his facebook- https://www.facebook.com/RepLangworthy/

Medicaid

While some of the proposed changes we agree with, they don’t come up with a $700 billion cut.

As of May 13, the House Republicans are proposing large cuts to Medicaid- over $700 Billion and we know what Langworthy will do- vote for the cuts. Keep in mind-first- Trump said no cuts to Medicaid- another lie, and second – 79.4 million people get Medicaid- 36 million children, 7 million seniors, 10 million people with disabilities and 20 million adults. And, why are we doing this –to fund tax cuts for corporations and wealthy (49% goes to top 5%- you will get maybe $400 while the top 1% gets $61,000. Meanwhile, due to Trump’s tariffs by the fall you will be paying $2-5,000 more a year in increased prices.

fyi

The federal Medicaid program has harsh immigration-related requirements that exclude from eligibility all people who are undocumented and many people who have lawful immigration status, including lawful permanent residents in their first five years in the United States.

Under the House bill includes a community engagement requirement that would mandate that people either work, particiapte in volunteer work or be enrolled in an educational program for at least 80 hours a week. This would be verified twice a year.(How does this come up with $700 Billion in cuts?) There are work exceptions- people under 19, women who are pregnant or under postpartum medical care. Well, what about seniors and disabled?

TAX Bill

The GOP tax bill under discussion today, May 14, would cost $3.7 TRILLION over 10 years. Details

If you read the details, it basically sounds good. The problem is how to pay for it–firings, elimination or severe reduction of basic programs- HEAP, Head Start, Meals on Wheels, SNAP, Medicaid, Agricultural programs, elimination of subsidies for National Flood Insurance Program, Energy Credits, raising taxes on investment income from universities from 1.4% to as much as 21%, reduce loans for college students, charge $250 annually to those who own electric vehicles, Cuts to Affordable Care Act, eliminate the non-profit status of hospitals  etc. Also, it does not mention that 49% goes to top 5% of earners. If you add it all up, it doesn’t come close to paying for the $3.7 Trillion even with income from tariffs that we as individuals will pay for with higher prices.

More Details

Eliminating taxes on social security which is part of the GOP plan would reduce federal revenue by $1.5 trillion over 10 years which would mean the Medicare trust fund would reach insolvency six years earlier than currently projected and the Social Security trust fund would reach insolvency two years earlier reducing benefits from 21% to 25%.
