Vote for Hochul- Keep the Buffalo Bills In Buffalo and Keep Support For WNY

  1. Zeldin wants to reopen the Bills Stadium negotiation which is likely to result in the Bills team being located to another city. Pegulas have made it clear that if a new stadium deal wasn’t reach by July 2023, they will not renew it lease in Buffalo. And with no lease, the Bills will be free to move to another city.Zeldin says the Pegulas should pay rather than the state but that is not going to happen, with a winning team do you really think the Pegulas can’t find another market willing to embrace the Bills.Meanwhile, Hochul negotiated a 30 years deal for the Bills to remain in Buffalo, approved by NFL owners and a $1.4 billion stadium. Of the $600 million state funds, $418 would be offset it coming from revenue from the Seneca Nation casinos. So the state is fronting $182 Million
  2. Zeldin is from Queens and is a US House of Representative for Eastern Long Island – home of the Hamptons and where half of the property values are over $400,700. Do you really think he cares about anything west of Westchester County outside NYC?
  3. Zeldin will ban all abortions without exception. And, the Republican party wants to pass a bill to make this happen nationally. How will you feel it is your daughter, niece, sister, if she is raped or has a medical crisis? Plus, abortions are half (and declining) of what they were in 1981 and 93% occur in the first trimester. Do we really want the government to control our bodies? And, meanwhile where is the money for child care at $1300 a month?
  4. Zeldin’s Legislation sponsored or co-sponsored – (1) designate that a post office service be located in 3900 Crown Road SW in Atlanta, Georgia- John Lewis PO and a PO at 39 West Main in Honeyoye Falls, NY as the Koch PO, POS at 66 Meserole Ave in Brooklyn as Joseph Lentol PO, POS at 170 Manhattan Avenue in Buffalo as the Indiana Hunt- Martin PO (actually introduced by Brian Higgins), PO at 40 Fulton in NYC at Benjamin Gilman PO, PO at 599 East Genesee St in Fayetteville, NY as George Bacel PO, PO at 8320 8320 13th Ave in Brooklyn at the Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini PO, PO at 511 West 165th Street, NYC as Normandia Malonado PO, PO at 7722 South Main St in Pine Plains NY as Senior Chief Petty Officer Kent PO, etc (2) accelerate access to critical therapies for ALS Act, (3) Paws for Veterans Therapy Act, (4) Great Generation Commemorative Coin Act, Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commemorative Coin Act. Apparently, much of his legislation is for Post Offices and Coins. See more : https://www.congress.gov/member/lee-zeldin/Z000017?q=%7B%22bill-status%22%3A%22law%22%7D

5.Inflation and Rising Prices-while the issue is a federal issue more than state, the state can help others from the impact. What is Zeldin and Republicans suggesting to do about it? Nothing. Like you, raising prices are top of mind. So, how did we get here. First, inflation is World Wide (Italy- 9.4%, Spain-9%, Sweden- 10.3%, Germany- 10.9%, Denmark – 11.1%, Greece- 12.1%, England 10.1%). What is interesting is that Japan is 3%, India is 7.4% and China is 2.8%. The USA inflation rate is 8.2%. China is largely self sufficient in food and had limited stimulus plans during the pandemic plus the Ukraine war disrupted global markets for commodities, energy, fertilizers and grains resulting in surging global prices for energy and raw materials. https://www.scmp.com/economy/economic-indicators/article/3181940/why-chinas-inflation-rate-low-compared-us-europe-

So why is inflation a problem in Europe and US- Russian invasion of Ukraine, supply shortages including chip and energy- resulting from the pandemic, pandemic fiscal and monetary stimulus and just plain old price gouging.

And, as for gasoline prices, the issue is a refinery shortage with five fewer refineries than in 2020. A Philadelphia refinery-one of the largest in the US, had explosions and the Louisiana refinery was wiped out by Hurricane Ida and both have been shut down. 6.Crime Rating Increasing-while a lot of focus has been on guns – illegally coming from the South and Pennsylvania and ghost guns, there are 393.3 million weapons in the USA. Unfortunately, the NRA has been extremely effective in making gun owners believe their guns are going to be taken away. Really- 393 million? Hochul signed a law requiring buyers of semi-automatic rifles to be 21+ following deadly mass shootings that are occurring in NY state (AR-15-Buffalo) and across the country. The controversial concealed carry laws apply to sensitive locations including Time Square, bars, libraries, schools, government buildings and hospitals and require those seeking to obtain a permit to include firearm training, in-person interview, and social media review. 6.Crime- Cash Bail Reform – this was under Governor Cuomo in April of 2019 before Hochul became governor in August 24, 2021. According to the Brennan Center for Justice, there is no clear connection between recent crime increases and the bail reform law enacted in 2019. The ending of cash bail was for misdemeanors and nonviolent felonies. The goal was to reduce people who would get jail time because they could afford to pay bail and bereleased. https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/research-reports/facts-bail-reform-and-crime-rates-new-york-state

New York judges cannot consider their subjective view of a person’s “dangerousness” when deciding what release conditions to set. New York’s approach, which dates back to the 1970s, reflects an attempt to preserve the presumption of innocence and reduce racial biases against defendants. State legislators carefully considered revisiting this rule in 2020 but ultimately decided against it. Notably, judges also retain the ability to set bail in some cases considered high-risk. . Judges may set bail for defendants who have been released and are rearrested for another offense, provided both charges are felonies or Class A misdemeanors and involve harm to a person or property.  Notably, Hochul’s proposal would go further, allowing judges to set bail almost any time someone is rearrested after initially being released, even for a low-level misdemeanor.)

One recent analysis by the Times Union of Albany suggested that relatively few people released under the new law went on to be rearrested for serious offenses. The Times Union reviewed state data on pretrial releases between July 2020 and June 2021, identifying nearly 100,000 cases where someone was released pretrial in a decision “related to the state’s changed bail laws.” Just 2 percent of those 100,000 cases led to a rearrest for a violent felony; of these, 429 cases led to a rearrest for a violent felony involving a firearm.

7.Zeldin voted to overturn the 2020 election results and blamed Democrats for the January 6 violence. This is horrifying. Trump lost the first election by 3 million votes and the second one by 7.8 million votes. He only got in office because of the electoral college. And, as for January 6th, think for one minute if Trump were a black man and those storming the Capital were black militants. Racist but proves the point. Trump first, not America first. Fake news and deflection are his modus operandi.  We need to make sure January 6th never happens again and we remain a democracy.

These are top of mind reasons to consider supporting Hochul vs. Zeldin. If you want to learn more            about Hochul’s Programs-Governor Kathy Hochul
