National Grid Customers Who Had Outage for 72 Hrs.- Eligible for Food and Prescription Medication Spoilage Reimbursement– Apply-December 29 to January 10, 2023. You must have itemized list and proof of loss (take photos with cellphone). Small businesses affected can also file. This also applies to NYSEG customers.

Here is the catch–you have to have proof of loss of foor- a receipt for the food, a photo and itemized list. If you do the itemized list, the most you can get is $235. If you can show proof of loss – receipt- the most you can get is $540.There are four ways to file a claim. You can fill out a form online, or do it by email, phone, or mail.

Residential customers who experienced an outage lasting more than 72 consecutive hours due to a storm/incident will automatically receive a $25 bill credit for each subsequent 24-hour period of the outage and may be eligible for reimbursement due to food and/or prescription medication spoilage

The reimbursement requests must be filed within 14 days of the restoration of power

Additional standard homeowners policy might provide some coverage for food loss due to power outage or mechanical failure of refrigeration equipment- usually $500 or $1000.
