Boston and Massachusetts have amazing and interesting scenic parks from Walden Pond to Cape Cod to the Arboretum to the Public Garden.

1. Walden Pond – Concord – Made famous by Henry David Thoreau and his book, Walden. Considered the birthplace of the American conservation movement. 20 miles from downtown Boston. There is a replica of Thoreau’s original cabin. No dogs or bicycles.

2. Mount Greylock State Reservation – Lanesborough – 3491 foot mountain and has 12, 500 acres in the Berkshire Hills. The summit offers visitors views up to 100 miles across five different states.

3. Nickerson State Park – Brewster – Eight crystal clear fresh water ponds and an 8-mile bike path that connects to the 25 mile Cape Cod Rail Trail.

4. Arnold Arboretum – 125 Arborway, Jamaica Plain, Boston, MA 02130 – Olmsted designed with 265 beautiful acres. They also have a Lilac Sunday which is on May 12, 2013 which features thousands of flowering lilacs. There are tours, music, family activities, picnicking and food.

5. Boston’s Public Garden – Botanical Garden with 4 aces of old growth trees, walking paths, fountains and swan boats (foot pedal-powered) in warm months. Location Arlington or Beacon Street, Boston.

6. Cape Cod National Seashore (note there currently is no beach access at Nauset Light and Marconi beaches due to storm damage). There is biking–here is a map (stay on the trail as they will take your bike if you go on the beach).
