How Many Trips and Bugs Does it Take To Raise a Brood of Chickadees?
Parents bring about 350 to 570 caterpillars to the nest every day and during the 14 to 18 day nesting they bring about 6000 to 9000 insects. Like bluebirds, chickadees continue to feed their fledglings after they leave the next for several weeks.
Bluebirds bring about 2oo to 300 trips daily and one brood can eat up to 40,000 bugs. While the numbers vary slightly, they can eat 2000 bugs a day and a can spot a insect from 50 yards. Bluebirs feed their fledgling for about 3 weeks after the babies leave the nest.
Wow, I’m tired thinking about it…but at least you are done in 2-3 weeks!!
