Awakening!

I awaken but I am still in my dream. I have a superpower. I can see things no one else can see. The objects are  miniscule, but I can identify them easily. They saunter around on people’s faces and hands. They dawdle on objects as they wait patiently to be moved. The tiny little balls are blood red in the middle. Multiple spiny spikes extend outward from the glowing yellow exterior. They sway back and forth like sea grass on the ocean floor. Their little trumpet ends seem to stare at me. It is as if they mock me and urge me to tell what I see. “Go ahead, maybe they will listen!” I know it is just another weird dream and I choose to leave it. I have peculiar dreams lately.

I struggle to figure out what day it is. It doesn’t really matter. It is the same day as yesterday and the same day it will be tomorrow and the day after. The world has stopped.

I make an attempt to become fully awake. I wonder when the world will start again.

A bird sings sweetly outside the window. The dog rolls over and yawns his usual morning greeting. My husband smiles at me and cheerfully heads to the kitchen to make coffee as he does every morning. It was warm enough last night to have the window open a bit. It rained yesterday and the air smells damp as the cool breeze floats across my face. I remember seeing angle worms on the pavement during our walk. I consider magnificent the sunset I witnessed last night.

I put on my robe and slippers and leave the bedroom. As I sit in my comfortable armchair and cup my hot coffee in my hands, the sun rises in the east. The grass is turning green. Two deer are relaxed and nibbling under the budding maple. Tiny flowers are visible on the edge of the woods.

I sip my first cup of morning ambrosia. It is the same today as it was yesterday and as it will be tomorrow and the next day. The world hasn’t stopped!
